City Fire Explorer Program
Mt. Shasta City Fire Department hosts a very successful Explorer Post. The Explorers operate through the Boy Scouts of America, and in co-operation with the Mt. Shasta City Fire Department, young men and women have the chance to learn about the fire service. The young people that participate will gain valuable experience that they will need to obtain an entry level position in the fire service or other careers.
Many Past Mt. Shasta City Explorers have gone on to become Professional Firefighters for agencies such as: Las Vegas Fire, Reno Fire, Cal Fire, Portland Fire and many more. The experiences that these young people obtain not only are for the fire service but many classes they take will help them in careers such as: Law enforcement, Veterinary services, FEMA, Engineering, Medical services and much more. Some Explorers are able to leave the Explorer program with their California State Fire Marshal Certificates like Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Instructor IA, Instructor IB, ICS 100 thru 400, Wildland Firefigher 66 or 67, just to name a few.
Explorers can begin when they reach the age of 14 and continue until they are 21 years old. Anyone interested contact Mt. Shasta City Fire Department at (530) 926-7546 and ask for Explorer Advisor Eric Dyck.
